- It is an electrical safety device designed to detect and respond to leakage currents in an electrical circuit. The main function of an RCM is to prevent electric shocks and fires caused by faults in electrical systems, such as damaged wires or faulty insulation. It does this by detecting small residual currents, typically caused by earth leakage, that could be dangerous to people or equipment.
- The RCM continuously monitors the current flowing through a circuit. It detects any difference between the live (hot) and neutral conductors, which indicates that some current is “leaking” to the ground or earth.
