- It is a type of electrical switch that is activated by the presence of a magnetic field. It is commonly used in various applications where non-contact switching is desirable.
- A magnetic reed switch consists of two or more thin, ferromagnetic reeds enclosed in a glass tube. The reeds are normally open or closed depending on their position and are made to contact or separate when a magnetic field is present.
- When a magnetic field (typically from a permanent magnet) is brought near the switch, the reeds inside the glass tube move. This movement causes the reeds to either come together (in a normally open switch) or separate (in a normally closed switch), completing or breaking the electrical circuit.
