- A solenoid throttle, often referred to as an electronic throttle control (ETC) or drive-by-wire system, is a technology use in modern automotive engines to control the throttle opening. In traditional throttle systems, a mechanical linkage, such as a cable, connects the accelerator pedal to the throttle body. In contrast, a solenoid throttle eliminates this physical connection and replaces it with electronic signals. The position of the accelerator pedal is detected by an accelerator pedal position sensor. This sensor sends an electronic signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Engine Control Unit (ECU).
